Going in: I only saw the trailer. I have one review in my inbox that I haven't read yet. I've heard good things about it but nothing in detail.

Popcorn: 9/10. I'll probably see this at least twice and there are at least four movies coming up that I feel I can't miss. But this movie had a lot of interesting things to say and it was done in a really good way. I may actually pre-order this. The only reason I'm not pushing it to a 10 is that I have that gut check that I'm high on the movie and it's never a good idea to think you're being rational when you're feeling like that. So, I'm measuring a bit conservative.

Art: 9/10. There was a lot going on in this movie. A lot of pieces that came together and some filmmaking that put a fresh spin on things. It wasn't the funnest movie of 2018, but so far it's the most interesting.

Acting: 2/3. I want to put this at a 3 because of the lead actor, Logan Marshall-Green. It's in the trailer, but there are a lot of scenes where he's shocked by what STEM is doing. It's done convincingly. Normally, I look for little things, but this consistent conflict was enjoyable.

Music: 1/2. Normally, at a "1", it would be normal and bland score, but there are elements of the score that truly influence the film, an old fashioned moving score. There wasn't a recognizable theme and that's the only reason I'm downgrading it.
Filming: 2/2. There's no way around this. The DP shot the action with camera work that made you feel it wasn't the character working but something else, which was obviously the desired effect. The color is dark which is appropriate for the story. And this other-worldiness is critical to the story and very well done. There's an example in the trailer and while that particular shot is used several times, there are others.
Art Dept: 2/2. I liked the set design. A "1" is where you don't notice. But they pulled this off in a near-future setting. And it was just so well done. Some of the CGI was there but it wasn't critical.
Editing: 2/2. I'm going to give full marks here since they did something I miss - the action isn't choppy. It's smooth and I loved it. Simple and not a flurry of shots. At no time did I think that
Story: 4/4. There's a theme of humanity and technology. They hit on it heavy in the first act. Once. Then the story did it's job. All the subplots were related. I honestly don't remember the dialog. The lead character is kind of an every-man. He's not super smart, not super brilliant. He fixes cars and it's his heart that is the biggest thing about him. Some of the elements of the story are predictable. Sort of.
Directing: 3/3. I enjoyed this movie a great deal and I've tried holding back, but there are just little consistent strengths across all departments that keep emerging. Everything pulled together in a great way.
Production: 2/2. A story defintely worth telling and relevant to today. I think the right team was there, although honestly, I kept getting the lead confused with Tom Hardy (I think that's just me). I'm not sure it *had* to be told on the big screen, but I'm really, really glad they did.
