Venom
Going in: I've only seen the trailers and heard some rumors it wasn't that great. That's fine. I'm also unfamiliar with the Venom story so I don't know what to expect in terms of anything really.
Popcorn: 7.5/10. This movie had a lot of fun moments. I wouldn't put it up with Thor: Ragnarok. Maybe the first Iron Man? I'm already committed to seeing two more times (I hope including once in 3D. I'm looking forward to it. We'll probably end up buying it soon after it comes out but not probably right away.
Art: 7/10. Standard Marvel comic-book fare. Thoroughly enjoyable but not drop my mouth fantastic.
Acting: 2/3. \I bought Tom Hardy's portrayal of the character. And the times that he looked sick were really good, probably part acting/part makeup. Nothing pulled me out of the movie and there was quite a bit of emotion there.
Music: 2/2. Okay, so there wasn't a whole lot of thematic music but it was sooo close. I'm going to go ahead and give this up to 2/2 since the effort was obviously there.
Filming: 1/2. I didn't notice anything in the filmography. It doesn't surprise me - half the protagonist is CGI. Some of the cityscapes were good as well.
Art Dept: 2/2. The CGI was really good. It had to be for Venom. I noticed a little bit of product placement but it amused me rather than angering me.
Editing: 1/2. I didn't notice the editing which means we've got a great job here. I think there were places where he could've spiced it up a bit but it wasn't notable. I never once checked my watch.
Story: 3/4. A lot of this story is about accepting who we are - good and bad. We were almost plagued by another villain but I think that could've been done better (pardon my hubris). One of the bad guys, well, there was no choice. However, the other bad guy could've been going down a dark path for a good reason. But we didn't. It turned generic.

Directing: 2/3. I liked the way this showed up on the screen. There were some cool choices made that wowed me. I can't remember off the top of my head (I was in a theater that kicks you out mid-credits). There's room for improvement but it's a solid film.
Production: 2/2. I liked this story and it had a big "Know what we're doing here people" vibe. Like I said, it's not a perfect movie but it's well worth watching in the theater.
