The Girl in the Spider's Web

Going in: Haven't seen the other 2 movies or read the book. Just read about the first one and was interested in Claire Foy playing this kind of role.

Popcorn: 7/10. The movie wasn't bad. Not great, but not bad. I'd see it again if there was nothing else.

Art: 6.5/10. An okay movie with a dash of charm. But nothing fantastic.

Acting: 3/3. One actor in particular: Claire Foy. I saw her in First Man and was really pleased. Same here. Sylvia Hoeks looks like her eyebrows were frozen in prosthetics.

Music: 1/2. So, so close. It built, but it fell a little short.

Filming: 1/2. There was one scene where she was a little disoriented. The camera work underscored the disorientation and added to the feeling. It was pretty impressive. The rest was just okay.

Art Dept: 1/2. Production design was okay. There wasn't anything that was bad, but there wasn't anything that stood out either.

Editing: 1/2. There was almost a scene - same as the one mentioned above. But I can't really give credit twice. Editing was just fine otherwise.

Story: 3/4. This was more of an intellectual film - more plot than character. I kept thinking who's this, how will they meet up. It had some moments but it wasn't anything too endearing. There was some luck in this: more on the supporting character's part than hers. And she was very reactionary. Clever, but still reactionary. There was a little bit of sacrifice at the end so that was a nice touch. The movie didn't make me feel too much except in one particular scene. Pacing was fairly good. There was only one moment when I caught myself measuring the acts (close to the end of the second act which is usually where this happens).

Directing: 2/3. This was an okay movie. Didn't hate but didn't love it either. If anything I would say it was more the story element that was lacking than the shot choices or acting.

Production: 1/2. It was still worth watching on the big screen and there were some moments that wouldn't have played well on the small screen. I think it could have been a little better.
